Jonathan Henick is Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Asia Affairs, Public Diplomacy and Press. Previously, he also served as Acting Deputy Coordinator of the Global Engagement Center (GEC) as well as the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary and Director for Press and Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, as well as the Counselor for Public Affairs in Turkey and the Deputy Chief of Mission in Timor-Leste. He has been active in the countering of the spread of disinformation by terrorist organizations. He is a recipient of the Public Diplomacy Alumni Association Achievement Award in 2008 and was the diplomat-in-residence of the East-West Center. Henick graduated from Columbia College with a B.A. in 1992, a Master's degree in International Affairs from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, and a PhD from the University of Hawaii.<ref name=":2" />
