Jonathan Caren

Jonathan Caren is an American writer and director. He was born and raised in Los Angeles before studying theatre and mythology at Vassar College in 2003. He received a Fellowship to the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center where he was able to workshop his full-length play Fish Out of Water in Shark City. The play received further development by Naked Angels in Los Angeles before winning the 2005 Theater Publicus Prize for Dramatic Literature. It received its world premiere by Elephant Stageworks in the spring of 2006. His award-winning plays Brewbucks and Rising Hot Air have been produced on both coasts. He is the current resident playwright for The Elephant Theater Company in Hollywood and works frequently with ThirdMan Productions, in New York City -- producers of The Barhoppers Series with a mission to spread renegade theater by any means possible. Caren became the youngest finalist ever to participate in Fox Studios developmental workshop Naked T.V. where he created his original pilot Homeboys. His other screen and television works include The Perks and The Cat's Cradle Moon. Caren was awarded a full scholarship to attend USC’s Master of Professional Writing Program where he studied with screenwriting guru Syd Field. He also assists Winnie Holzman, creator of My So-Called Life and Wicked.
