Jon Colwell

Jonathan Quinton "Jon" Colwell (Born Jonathan Quinton Collier on March 17th, 1994) is an American radio personality, disc jockey, singer-songwriter, podcaster, and businessman. Colwell is best known for his radio career, using the on-air name, Jammin' Jon, and for being the founder of Walkman TV, an online music television station.
Early Life
Colwell was born Jonathan Quinton Collier at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center on March 17th, 1994 to Crystal Colwell and John "Johnny" Collier. When he was an infant, his father left the family, leaving his mother to support him by working various jobs, including working at Wendy's and Beverly's Video Land, A local video store. Colwell states that his mother played the largest influence on his love of music. As a kid, he developed a love for radio and loved listening to local radio personality Michael Dwayne of WZQQ and John Boy and Billy of WRFX. These radio personalities played a major influence on Colwell becoming a radio personality later on in life. When asked about the interview, Colwell said "Kip Winger was one of my favorite singers growing up. He was one of my idols. I did that interview with him and it was a really cool experience. We did this interview over his life and he absolutely loved it." He also interviewed and pro wrestling legend Mick Foley in 2014. Colwell said of the Mick Foley interview, "It was really cool to me because I grew up a major wrestling fan. I grew up watching him as Mankind, Dude Love, and Catus Jack. I never imagined that he would be here in Hazard. Those three interviews really helped me build my profile." Colwell along with Neace left WMMT in December 2014. The show plays every Friday from 4 to 7 PM.<ref name="caudill"/>
Television Career
Walkman TV (2017-Present)
In 2017, Colwell decided to create his own online music television station. The station, Walkman TV, which name comes from the Sony Walkman, is billed as a "Revival of 1980s and 1990s MTV." The station airs some of the earliest known music videos from the 1950s-1970s along some of the most popular music videos from the 1980s and the 1990s. When asked about coming up with the idea of Walkman TV, Colwell said “My whole purpose for making Walkman TV was, I was born in 1994 and I got to experience near the end of the 1990s TRL and all of that on MTV, I wanted to bring that back. I absolutely loved it. I absolutely loved the music videos that were shown on MTV.” He also said that since the late 1990s, MTV shifted their focus from music video programming to reality based series. He said he grew up watching music videos on MTV and he wants to bring that programming back, citing the music video for the song, "Coffee and TV" by mesmerized him. Colwell also said he wants local bands and artists to get involved with Walkman TV by sending in music videos, and would air these music videos for free on the station. He said about having local artists and bands on the station, “I want to go and take local bands and artists that shows me that they have talent and I want to put them on Walkman TV. If they have a music video shot, I want them on Walkman TV." He hopes the youth will become inspired to pick up music themselves by watching the music videos on the station like how he was influenced as a kid. Colwell also has plans to expand the station by the end of 2017 by incorporating a news segment into the station’s programming. The news segment will focus on news out of East Kentucky and Nationwide.<ref name="caudill"/>
