Johnathan Seitler QC

Jonathan Seitler QC (born 11-06-61) is an English barrister specialising in property litigation and professional negligence arising out of it. He is also a qualified mediator and has conducted over 100 mediations as an advocate and over 40 mediations as a mediator.
Career
Seitler was born in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, the son of Benny and Sandra . He attended Stand Grammar School for Boys (no longer in existence) which became a Comprehensive (Stand College) whilst Seitler was there. He went on to study at Pembroke College, Oxford. He graduated with a BA Hons degree in Philosophy Politics and Economics; he completed his post graduate Diploma in Law at City University.
Called to the Bar in 1985, he first practised as a barrister at the Chambers of George Carman QC covering criminal and common law work. In 1996, having become specialised in Real Estate litigation, he joined Wilberforce Chambers.

Seitler is regularly instructed and re-instructed by real estate institutions including: British Land, Berkley Homes, the Football Association, Network Rail, St George’s, John Lewis, Hallam Land, WH Smith, Crown Estate, Bovis Homes, Shell UK, Legal & General.
Seitler has appeared in a large number of property litigation claims, particularly relating to:

*termination of leases by surrender, forfeiture or the exercise of a break clause

Seitler is regularly instructed by the major Professional Negligence law firms for most of the professional negligence cases involving high profile property relating to solicitors’ errors arising from property transactions and claims against surveyors.

Seitler is a qualified mediator and has conducted over 100 mediations as an advocate and over 40 mediations as the mediator.
Professional reputation
Seitler was awarded Real Estate Silk of the Year by Chambers & Partners both in 2007 and again in 2010.
Publications
Seitler co-wrote Property Finance Negligence: Claims Against Solicitors and Valuers (FT Law & Tax 1996) with Hugh Tomlinson, Thomas Grant and Lord Steyn.
In 2009 he co-wrote Leases: Covenants and Consents (Sweet & Maxwell) with Letitia Crabb. Jonathan is also co-editor of the Sweet & Maxwell loose-leaf, Commercial Property Disputes
