Turn back the tides of time to ancient man, imagine, Imagine the laborious effort, toil and the sweat, To raise the circled walls, the rocky ramparts, For tribal defence in the cold and the wet. Envisage fortifications now foundered succumbed to ages, Standing firm against wind and hand of man, A last strong defence an enduring refuge, And sheltered home in wild and savage land. Who lays silent under raised earth? Long dead fallen warrior? Valiant King? Honoured leader of mountain country, Did he fight the good fight? Lose or Win? Some of John's poem listed in the Norman Nicholson section on western Lakes.Norman Nicholson Entry
