John Maggio (born December 22, 1956) is a Pittsburgh, PA native currently serving as the President of Dormont Borough Council. Personal Life Maggio grew up in East Liberty, a culturally diverse neighborhood in Pittsburgh. After graduating from Central Catholic High School, Maggio moved to San Francisco, California, where he married his wife, Judith Louise Euskavech Maggio. They had their first child, Christopher Joseph Maggio in November of 1989. Maggio and his family then moved to Plantation, Florida, where daughter Gina Marie Maggio was born in 1992, before returning to Pittsburgh. The family purchased a home in Dormont, PA, a small borough just outside the city of Pittsburgh, in 1993. Maggio worked at the Pittsburgh International Airport for USAirways until 2002. Dormont Pool Maggio first became involved in politics in 2006 when the Borough of Dormont announced the closure of their community pool due to insufficient funds. Maggio and his daughter began knocking on doors to collect money to save the pool. This effort gained momentum and support from the community, thus leading to a grassroots campaign. Soon, the non-profit organization, Friends of Dormont Pool was created. Thanks to Maggio's continuing efforts, the pool has opened every summer since. Political Involvement Following the saving of the pool, Maggio decided there were other issues in his borough he wanted to fix. He ran for a seat on borough council in 2004. He has held a seat since, and is again up for reelection in 2020. In 2016, Maggio was voted President of Council. Maggio continues to be an advocate for his community, and is also involved in environmental efforts and small business support.
