John Laffan

John Peter Laffan (born 17 December 1992) is a dual sports star from Wexford, Ireland. He has recently retired from club duty due to a serious injury, tendinitis in the knee.
He was known for his underage performances in both hurling and soccer. Leading his team Duffry Rovers to three county finals in a row. His trademark was bottom corner diving saves.
CAREER: He started his career off with Buffers Alley in Hurling and Saint Joseph's soccer club. He won numerous medals in both sports, the highlight being the division one soccer title with Saint Joseph's. His career hit a turbulent patch when he had to transfer to the Duffry Rovers in hurling and Caim United in soccer. He won two further league titles on the soccer field with Caim United but his fortunes changed in hurling. He reached numerous county finals at three different levels for the Duffry but they were never able to convert that to winners medals despite the best efforts of John. During this period he was playing school hurling with Saint Mary's CBS where he won both a South Leinster medal and a Leinster medal in his first year at the club. At the age of 17 he was called up to the Duffry first team to replace the injured Damien Fitzhenry. At the age of 19 he got injured in a league decider in division two for Caim United, he came back numerous times from injury only to break down again. On the 3rd of April 2013 he finally called time on his career and hopes.
