John L. Hummer

John L. Hummer is an American healthcare executive. He serves as co-founder, president and executive board member of Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University.
Career
Hummer served as COO of Universal Medical Center in Plantation, Florida. In 1993, Hummer became CEO of River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace, Louisiana after working with a Hospital Corporation of America hospital in Denton, Texas. He orchestrated a partnership between River Parishes and competitor East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana. He later served as COO of George Washington University Hospital.
In August 2000, he was named CEO of Mountain View Regional Medical Center, owned by Triad Hospitals, before the hospital opened. Hummer co-founded Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and became president, CEO and executive board member in 2014.
As chairman of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, Hummer opposed the Wilderness Designation for the Organ Mountains in 2010. Hummer also served as Commissioner for District 1 of the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
Other activities
Hummer and his wife, Amy, own Steinborn & Associates Real Estate. He serves on the board of Borderplex Alliance and is chairman of its Air Service Task Force. Hummer was co-chairman for the political action committee, People for Aerospace. As co-chair, Hummer led the political action committee's efforts to successfully pass the tax referendum vote by the citizens of Doña Ana County, New Mexico to fund Spaceport America, the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport. Hummer also serves as a director on the board of First American Bank.
