John Kokal

John J. Kokal (? - Died November 7, 2003) aged 58, was an official of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Intelligence and Research Near East and South Asian Division (INR/NESA) who committed suicide by jumping off the roof of the Department of State's Harry S. Truman Building sometime around 5PM on November 7, 2003. Kokal's body was found at the bottom of a 20 foot window well, 8 floors below the roof of the State Department headquarters near the 23rd and D Street location. Kokal's death was briefly mentioned in a FOX News website story on November 8, 2003, but was otherwise ignored by the media.
During the time period leading up to his death, Kokal worked as a Middle East Analyst and also served as a liaison with the Front Office of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs where he frequently assisted the current Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William J. Burns.
Many internet blogs have speculated that Kokal's suicide was tied to his work on Iraq Analysis. Others have speculated that Kokal had contracted and recently been diagnosed with a mental illness and had subsequently been informed that his US Government security clearance was going to be suspended because of it.
Kokal is referred to by the Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security as "The HST Jumper."
RfC: Is the John Kokal Entry similar to the David Kelly Entry?
Is the John Kokal Entry similar to the entry in ? Why or why not?
I am the original drafter of the entry. My view is that there is a double standard regarding the request for deletion of this entry. I feel that the John Kokal Entry on has the same amount of validity as the Entry. I would appreciate it if those who are interested in biographies could comment on this issue as well as the deletion discussion page which can be accessed through the main John Kokal site.
