Dr John de Groot is a leading specialist in Australian succession law. He is author of several definitive national reference publications on the subject, including Wills Probate & Administration Practice (Queensland) and Family Provision in Australia (an estate litigation text), the latter text being co-authored with Mr Bruce Nickel. Both books are now standard texts for the legal profession. He is frequently quoted in the media and sought after for his insight and opinion on national succession law issues. Dr de Groot is Chair of the Queensland Law Society's Succession Law Committee, Advisory Committee on Specialist Accreditation (Succession Law), of the Queensland Law Society, Adjunct Professor in Law at the T. C. Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland. Dr John de Groot is also Chair of the Queensland Community Foundationone of Queensland’s leading charitable organisations which works to bring together community, business, education and government leaders to further philanthropic causes across the State. The Foundation was established in 1997. In his spare time, Dr John de Groot is working to revive the sport of goat racing. Having had a successful career in the sport, reigning local champion for a number of his childhood years, his continuous avid support has led to the establishment of the world’s first goat racing museum in his hometown of Barcaldine, Queensland Australia.
