Joseph Laurita was born on July 27, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, where he resided until enlisting in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He served until at the age of 19 when he received a medical discharge due to a back injury. Once Laurita returned from the armed services he married Antoinette Maiano and together they raised 11 children. At the age of 21, Laurita found that he had a strong aptitude for design. He took a job with a doll manufacture as a design engineer in the mold department. Over the next four years Laurita was motivated towards learning and mastering mold design and injection molding procedures. With hard work and dedication Laurita accomplished to design the "blinking eye" dolls. At the age of 25, Laurita ventured out on his own and became an entrepreneur. He followed his passion in the industry by owning and operating a product development company, mold design facility and a mold processing plant. He traveled all over the globe, either consulting in Europe or buying molds for various corporations, while always maintained a great deal of success in providing innovations. While Laurita has been married for 63 years, his greatest achievement and accomplishment along with his wife has been raising his 11 children. Laurita has always managed to balance work and family while still finding time to dedicate his successful recourses towards St. Jude Medical Center and inspiring his children to do the same. Over his 60-year career Laurita has developed 13 products and received 12 patents. Among his past successful inventions and molds he currently owns the the patents on the collapsible three or five-piece milk crate, the 30 degree angled water bottle, swivel base beach & lounge chair, snow melter for all moving vehicles, the sensor design for trailers & high moving vehicle to prevent accidents at underpasses, Open top corrugated beverage & other products with nestible stacking ability, the beach sled and conversion of existing flower box brackets to accommodate wrought iron railings. Laurita continues to dedicate his time towards developing new and innovating products. His personal goal is to see all of his patents go into production. Laurita is a cancer survivor, and since his courageous recovery he looks forward towards creating his next product.
