Joel Ssenyonyi is a Ugandan journalist and politician who currently serves as the spokesperson of the National Unity Platform party led by Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi. He is well known for news anchoring at both NTV Uganda and UBC Television in Uganda's Capital and largest City, Kampala. He was born on December 20, 1986, at Mulago Hospital to Mr Joseph Basekezi and Mrs Dorothy Nankunda, his Father is a Muruuli from Nakasongora and the mother is from Rwampara District. His father was so polygamous with about four wives as his mother was the official one. His family lived in Kyengera before his parents separated. He studied at Trinity Academy Primary School Bukoto for his Primary Seven, St Lawrence Citizen High School for his Uganda Certificate of Education and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education In the 2011 general elections, he contested for Central Youth Member of Parliament on Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket, but he was defeated. He agreed with Balimwezo to take advantage of the decision to split Nakawa into two constituencies to avoid competing against each other in the 2021 elections after it has been split into Nakawa East and West. Both are party member of National Unity Platform party. Ssenyonyi in July got married to his wife and long time girlfriend Febress Nagawa, after he claimed himself virgin for so long, a testimony he gave at Watooto church. According to Ssenyonyi, his work at NUP is voluntary as he is not paid. On 15th October 2020, he was norminated by the Ugandan Independent electoral commission to contest for the Nakawa West parliamentary seat in the 2021 General election on the National Unity Platform ticket for which he speaks. .
