Joe Giarratano

Joe Giarratano (born April 9, 1985 in Flushing, Queens) is a 4th degree black belt, New York State taekwondo champion and international martial arts competitor. He was born in Flushing, Queens and currently resides in Long Island, New York.
In 2005, he was sponsored for competition by Circuit City Stores, inc., the first sponsorship of its kind from the company. The sponsorship disbanded when Circuit City liquidated in early 2009.
Personal life
Joe Giarratano grew up in West Babylon, New York and graduated from North Babylon High School in North Babylon, NY in 2003. He currently attends college in the Long Island area pursuing a degree in business and computer information technology. He is actively involved with the Town of Babylon, among others in New York, giving self-defense seminars and teaching classes for its residents while he's not competing. Giarratano is a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach as well as an anti-doping advocate for the US Olympic Committee.
Martial Arts Career
Giarratano started his martial arts career in 1996, began instructing in 2000, and began competing in 2001. He is a student under Ralph and Maria Estrada, both New York and Florida state champions and inductees in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Giarratano is well known for his attention to form and detail and is a sought after competitor, fitness instructor, and Korean pumsae coach in the Northeast United States.
In 2009, shortly after his New York State win, he was written about in several Long Island news publications. Due to a rule-change in 2009 by the World Taekwondo Federation and the elimination of the traditional forms division, Giarratano's competition status in 2010 was in question. He has since cross-trained for the newly-introduced forms divisions and has stated he plans to return to competition in 2011.
