Jeremy Karpen

Jeremy Karpen (born 1981) is an American political activist. He obtained a BA degree in 2003 from Macalester College, St. Paul, in Philosophy & Psychology with a minor in Legal Studies, followed by a Master degree in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2007 In 2010, he was an unsuccessful candidate for the House Representative in Illinois’s 39th district as a member of the Green Party. Karpen's campaign manifesto includes responsible public investment in Clean Energy and Transportation, reforms in education funding through tax reform, electoral and campaign finance reform, and a non-profit single-payer health care system. Otherwise he has been part of the Logan Square Green Party, Illinois Green Party Local, Treasurer (01/09) & Former Chair, (03/07-01/09) 2008 Candidate for 39th District State Representative.
Endorsements
The Chicago Tribune said "Berrios has firmly established she is a loyal soldier protecting entrenched power in Springfield. We disagree with Karpen on plenty of issues. But," he says, "my campaign is about more than winning office, it is about shaking the foundation of the political machine. …" Fair enough. Karpen is endorsed.
The Chicago Sun-Times said that Karpen "is far more independent, more progressive and has greater depth" than Berrios, who is "is known for not making waves."
The Chicago Teachers Union endorsed Karpen for his "comprehensive plan to improve state funding and support for all social services including education." They cited Berrios' strong support of school vouchers in their decision.
The Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization endorsed Karpen.
