Jennifer Steinman

Jennifer Steinman Sternin is a documentary filmmaker and the founder of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Film Fatales women feature film and television directors community. Steinman started her career as an editor at CBS in New York and San Francisco. Her work appeared on ABC, CBS, PBS, Discovery, National Geographic and the Sundance Channel.  Her films have been selected for the Tribeca Film Festival, Rome Independent Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Sundance Film Festival, and SXSW.
Career
After graduating from film school, Steinman started her career as an Editor. She had a successful career in news editing and later as a commercial editor working with national healthcare brands for 20 years before she directed her first documentary. Steinman credits her extensive career as an Editor for influencing the way she shoots documentaries. She is always 'editing in her head' while she is shooting which she feels helps her when making shooting choices on the fly.
