Jeffries East Project was a low rise public housing project located in Cass Corridor on the west side of Detroit. The complex lies east of the Jeffries Projects which is known as "Jeffries West". Jeffries East projects was completed in 1940's and was mostly occupied by African American families before its decline. During the early 1980's, Jeffries East became a war Zone with criminals such as drug dealers setting up shop in the vacant apartments. Residents complained the gangs waged war with outsiders from other projects and terrorized tenements. Drug raids began in the project in the early 1990's as officers enforced operation sweep on several buildings that where abandoned. By the mid 2000s nearly all of the buildings where dilapidated and blocked off. In 2008 it was demolished and converted into Cornerstone Estates which is a 180-unit mixed-income affordable housing rental development.
