Jeffrey W. Robbins

Jeffrey W. Robbins (born 1972) is an American Continental philosopher of Religion. He received his B.A. from Baylor University (1994), his M.Div. from Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University (1997), and his Ph.D. in Religion from Syracuse University (2001). His dissertation was entitled "The Problem of Philosophical Theology."
Work
Robbins is best known for his work in postmodern theology, which is an endeavor to rethink the conditions of possibility for theological thought in light of contemporary forces of secularization, the hermeneutics of suspicion, and religious and cultural diversity. His collaboration with John D. Caputo and Gianni Vattimo in a book entitled "After the Death of God" has contributed the growing field of literature in weak theology. He has also made an original contribution to the field of political theology by demonstrating how it can be fruitfully wed to radical democratic theory.
Positions held
Robbins is currently an associate professor of and chair of religion and philosophy at Lebanon Valley College. He is the author of three books, Between Faith and Thought: An Essay on the Ontotheological Tradition (2003), In Search of a Non-Dogmatic Theology (2004), and Radical Democracy and Political Theology (2011), and editor of After the Death of God with Gianni Vattimo and John D. Caputo, and co-editor with Neal Magee of The Sleeping Giant Has Awoken: The New Politics of Religion in the United States (2008). He is also the associate editor for the Journal for Cultural and Religious Theory, and co-editor of the Columbia University Press book series Insurrections: Critical Studies in Religion, Politics, and Culture.
