Early life Ragsdale, born in Bellingham, Washington, graduated from Sehome High School,<ref name="nytimes2" /><ref name="nytimes1" /> where he played for the basketball team.<ref name="AUTOREF4" /><ref name="AUTOREF5" /><ref name="AUTOREF6" /> He received a BA in English from the University of Washington in 2000. He studied in the MFA writing program at Columbia University in 2000.
