Jeff Bernard (born on July 22 1966 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada) was an ice hockey player for the Hartford Whalers and the St. Louis Blues. He was the eleventh pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft and won Rookie of the Year. In 1991, when Bernard was traded to the Blues then-Blues teammate Brett Hull said "He can confuse the defense really good". His teammates called him "The Offensive Sultan" and Bernard lived up to his nickname.
Hartford Whalers
When he declared himself for the Entry Draft, many people thought he would be selected by a "a pee-wee team for the low-blow skaters". Those people where wrong, he was selected by Hartford as the 11th pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft and he was no low-blow skater; he was a phenom. Later he was on Team Canada in the winter Olympics in 1988. But his days with Hartford where short due to Hartford being over the salary cap in 1991.'
St. Louis Blues
In 1991 Bernard arrived in St. Louis, Missouri, United States and led the team to the Western Conference Finals, but lost to Chicago in six games. He was also a good confuser because he could confuse the defense in any game. In 1993 he broke his leg and was scheduled to leave the hospital in four months, but played a game with the broken leg and he scored a hat-trick against the "The Great One" and the Los Angeles Kings.
His last Game In 1999, he was body checked really hard, and it gave him a career ending concussion. Many Blues fans remember him, and although his jersey is still selling rapidly through the USA, it is mostly in St. Louis. He returned to the ice as the mascot for the Blues. He doesn't like being the mascot, but he said "It's better than a career ending concussion".
