Jef Klein is the author of The History and Stories of the Best Bars of New York, published by Turner Publishing in 2006 (third printing in 2013). Biography Klein was born Jennifer Pimentel in Hillsdale, NJ, and nicknamed "Jef" as a child. She spent 14 years working in the restaurant industry in New Jersey and New York City, and helped organize a restaurant in New Brunswick, NJ, under the Communications Workers of America, acting as Shop Steward and Vice President. She graduated from Rutgers University in 1982 with a degree in Art History, and worked in New York City for City Harvest and The Paley Center for Media, as well as for Princeton University, before becoming a writer full-time. She currently lives in Providence, RI, and also writes under the pen name Jane Vassar. Accolades Awards Winner of 2006 USABookNews History: Media/Entertainment award.
