Jay Spearing (born 25 November, 1988 in Wirral, England), is an English Defensive Midfielder, currently playing at English Premier League club Liverpool F.C.. He is a product of the club youth Academy.
He played at centre half and right back for the Academy side but his lack of height proved to be a problem. So he was moved to the position of holding midfielder, where he has excelled since then and is regarded as the most likely candidate from the reserve team to break into the 1st team in future. He currently plays further forward in midfield for the reserve team, usually pairing with the bigger and more defensive midfielder Damien Plessis.
He captained the youth team to success in 2007 FA Youth Cup by beating Manchester United in the final. He was injured for much of the 2006 FA Youth Cup run, but did feature in the final, as Liverpool beat Manchester City. Stephen Darby filled in as captain while Spearing was out.
