Jay Dee Collins

Jay Dee Collins is an Oklahoma Politician and former Midwest City Mayor. The city council appointed Vice Mayor Dee Collins as acting mayor on November 5, 2014, after Jack Fry won the District 42 state Senate election and resigned as mayor. Collins, who also represented Midwest City Ward 2, kept his council seat while serving as acting mayor.
Mayoral career
Collins was officially elected on February 10, 2015. Not long after his election, Members of the Midwest City Firefighters Association began circulating recall petitions (October 2015) against Collins due to their concerns over public safety funding in the city budget. These concerns included attempts to close a fire station and failure by city officials to fill five vacancies in the fire department. Recall supporters submitted enough signatures to force a recall election.
Recall
A recall election was held on February 9, 2016. Matt Dukes, Charles Thompson, Mark DeShazo and Collins appeared on the ballot. Dukes and Collins were the top two vote recipients in the recall, and a runoff election was planned for April 5, 2016. After losing 20 percent of the votes in the recall election to Dukes; Collins announced plans to resign from office effective April 11, 2016, thus leading to the runoff's cancellation. In the recall Dukes, received 55 percent of the votes, Collins received 35 percent, Charles Thompson, claimed 5 percent and Mark DeShazo, received 3 percent.
