Jay Cutler Rookie Cards

Jay Cutler Rookie Cards
Jay Cutler Rookie Cards
Jay Cutler’s rookie year was 2006. His rookie trading cards came out at the height of the football card craze.
First Card Set - Sage - April 2006
First Card Set with Pro Jersey - Upper Deck Target Rookie Exclusives - August 2006
Last Card Set - Upper Deck Exquisite Collection - February 2007
Many top names were sought after from this class such as Matt Leinart, Vince Young, and most notably Reggie Bush. Two of the most expensive modern day rookie cards came from the 2006 Class. Both of these cards were from the ultra high end Upper Deck set the Exquisite Collection. Reggie Bush’s autographed jersey card sold for as high as $5,500 and Jay Cutler’s card from the same set sold for nearly as high at $5,000. Those values have gone down some since 2006, but are still very much a hot commodity in collecting circles. This drop off in value happens with many rookie cards as the market for those rookie players are at their peak when their cards first come out. Than they diminish until the player begins to find success in the NFL.
Jay Cutler is still a sought after rookie card by collectors and some of his cards are still some of the most valuable of the 2006 sets produced. Jay Cutler rookies are unique in 2006 in that Cutler wasn’t as hyped as the other big names in the class, and so he didn’t have as many autographed rookie version printed in each set. Cutler still had approximately 760 different cards produced, and 332 autographed rookie cards from 42 different sets. The card manufacturers of Cutler rookie cards were Topps, Upper Deck, Donruss/Playoff, Press Pass, and Sage. This number may seem high, but the industry realized in the 2000's that rookie cards are the most sought card by collectors and printed more rookies in their sets than any other player. So 332 autographed cards is minor when Reggie Bush had well over 500 different autographed rookie cards from the 42 different sets. Many of his cards are shorter print runs than the other rookies in 2006.
The most sought after Cutler rookie cards are the Exquisite Auto Patch numbered to 20 and 10 as well as Upper Deck’s SP Authentic, Authentic Rookie Signatures, numbered to 99. Other cards that are sought after are the typical Playoff Contenders set Rookie Ticket and the High End Upper Deck and Topps Sets (Bowman Chrome, Topps Finest, SPx, Ultimate Collection, National Treasures, Donruss Elite, and Topps Chrome.)

This set is Ultra High End because of the initial price of each pack/box. Topps tried to compete with Upper Deck Exquisite and Playoff's National Treasures, but the set flopped due to a poor design that collectors didn't find worthy of the price tag. The single cards don't demand any higher prices than would Mid End singles in the secondary markets. Cutler only had one card in the set which was part of the Rookie Auto patch series.
