Javier Turienzo Alvarez (* 13th December 1984 in Zacatecas (Mexico)) is a mexican musician and guitarist. Alvarez's mother is a german emigrant and his father is a mexican fisherman. Musical Career Sunset-Take: Session with Dylan Alvarez became famous because of his rehearsals with Bob Dylan in spring 2008. There exist recordings on YouTube of the so called Sunset-Take including Lonesome Day Blues, Boots of Spanish Leather, and Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. Alvarez plays the lead guitar on these recordings. Remarkable is that not Dylan himself, but Donnie Herron does the vocals. Alvarez is a very good friend of Denny Freeman's son with whom he was on club-tour through eight cities in South America and Mexico during 2006. Freeman is the lead-guitar player of Dylans regular tour band since 2005. Alvarez was meant to play rhythm-guitar on one of the songs of Freeman's last record Twang Bang. Whether Freeman or Alvarez himself cancelled this cooperation is not known. Discussions concerning the authenticity of the Sunset-Takes may be found on Dylan discussion boards, e.g. expectingrain.com. That there are circulating at least nine other tapes of songs (or fragments) is nothing more than unconfirmed information as well. It is said that the the tracks were taped one afternoon at the Casa Santa Lucia Hotel, Zacatecas. Further Contributions In addition to this unusual and coincidental work with Dylan, Alvarez has recorded with lots of mexican musicians, and was a member of various (more or less famous) mexican bands since 2004, e.g. El Conjunto Norteño. He is an extraordinary player of the so called Jarana and had a short appearance in the mexican telenovela Salomé in 2001. In 2008 Alvarez also participated on the South American Music Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He will be an artist at the Latin Alternative Music Conference 2009 in New York City. Hank Williams Project: Shoebox Songs Alvarez participates also on the so called Hank Williams Project. Together with Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Jack White and other musicians Alvarez adds music to unfinished Williams songs. Jones also asked Alvarez to contribute to her next studio record.
