Jason van Wyk

Jason van Wyk (; born January 10, 1990) is a composer, music producer and musician from South Africa. He is best known for his electronic and experimental compositions and has been releasing records since the early 2000s.
Life and career
Jason was born in Cape Town on January 10, 1990. He grew up in a musical household with his mother being a piano teacher and at age seven took up the drums during his time in junior school. By age eleven, he had started producing electronic music at home with the music production software Rebirth and Reason and had his first release in 2005 through Gallo Records.
Producing mostly Trance music during this period, numerous singles were released through the Black Hole Recordings label with remix commissions extending to artists such as BT and Kirsty Hawkshaw, as well as the Armada Music label. These works were supported by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Above & Beyond and more, with inclusion on compilations such as In Search of Sunrise and A State of Trance.
In 2013 Jason's first solo album Days You Remember was released. This is noted as his first major departure in style from his previous work, taking on a range of influences from abstract electronic music to post-classical and ambient.
His second album Attachment was released in 2016 and his third album Opacity in 2017, both on the Home Normal label. Chain D.L.K. praised Attachment for it’s "emotional intensity" and its use of sound design, awarding it 4.5/5 stars, while Opacity received an equally positive reception with Fluid Radios review calling it "one of the year’s highlights" and both HearFeel and Headphone Commute including it in their "Top 20 Records of 2017" and "Best of 2017" lists respectively.
Besides his releases, Jason has composed for various film and media projects, including the feature film Triggered (released 7 November 2020 by Samuel Goldwyn Films, in collaboration with Andries Smit), documentaries for the likes of The Criterion Collection, Taschen and LinkedIn, as well as sound design work for Roland and Virtual Sonics.
Jason signed to the American label n5MD in November 2018. His fourth studio album Threads is set to be released 23 July 2021.
