Jason Fazackarley

Jason Fazackarley (born June 1963) is a British Liberal Democrat politician who served twice as the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, most recently from 14 May 2024 until 13 May 2025. He was elected to the Portsmouth City Council in 1995, lost his seat in 2014, and was reelected in 2018, representing the Nelson ward.
Political career
Fazackarley was first elected to Portsmouth City Council in 1995 as a Labour member. He later became an independent and then a Liberal Democrat.
He has held several senior roles on the council, including Chair of the Crime Prevention & Public Safety Committee (1996-2000), Chair of the Environment Committee (2000-2001), and Portfolio Holder for Public Safety (2002-2003).
In 2014, Fazackarley was defeated by UKIP candidate Colin Galloway.
He was reelected to his former seat in 2018. It is his second time serving in the role, having previously held the position in 2004.
As Lord Mayor, Fazackarley has presided over several civic events. In June 2024, he led a remembrance service at Portsmouth Cathedral to honour seafarers who have died at sea. In January 2025, he led the city's Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony.
Other roles
Fazackarley has served in various capacities within the council beyond his mayoral duties. He has held the role of Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transportation and has been involved in committees such as the Lord Mayor’s Coronation Homes Board and the European Cities Twinning Committee.
Personal life
According to public records, Fazackarley was born in June 1963, and is married to Michelle. Outside of his work as a councillor, he is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, an honorary life member and actor of Southsea Shakespeare Actors and a member of the Southern Skirmish Association.
His brother Geoff Fazackarley has been a member of the Hampshire County Council.
Fazackarley formerly served in the Armed Forces as a member of an SAS Signals Unit.
Fazackarley has been a Civil Service Manager within HM Revenue and Customs and his current employment is in the retail sector.
