Jason Dowd

Jason Dowd (born November 1, 1978) is an International Exhibiting, Award Winning Photographer and artist. He dedicates his photographic art to comfort and also change lives utilizing a shock factor designed to open eyes; by picking subjects most photographers and artists shy away from. Dowd also photographed the historic campaign stop in Tampa by the 44th President Barack Obama.
Early Life
Jason Dowd was born in Bristol, Connecticut. In 1997 he graduated with honors from Land O Lakes High School in Land O Lakes, FL. In 1998 he received an Associate’s Degree from ITT Technical Institute in Tampa for CAD Drafting. Dowd’s entire life has revolved around the arts. While at ITT Technical Institute, Dowd tried to incorporate his love for art and design into a successful career as an Architectural Drafter. Jason is a self taught photographer whose passion for the art thrives. In 2003, Dowd opened his own studio Dowd Studios, Inc.
Career
Jason’s award winning photography career is an eclectic one as he incorporates portraiture, video, photo restoration and photo archival into his repertoire. In 2010 Jason released his first photographic art series “Dreams, Nightmares, Fears and Fantasy” that caught the eye of the media.
Jason Dowd rise to fame as a photographer isn’t from his portraits and weddings he’s photographed over the years. His fame stems from his unique art collections which have gained international attention, and his fearless flight to depict the odd and taboo; things that people experience but are too afraid to talk about. By addressing these items he hopes to emasculate the fear and bring comfort to those who view his work; in doing so he brings something to photography that most people don’t when they photograph a piece.
Jason is a self taught photographer. Over the years he studied the photographic processes of the past and how photographers positioned and portrayed their subjects. In doing so, Jason became an expert on historic photography and preservation. Dowd incorporates that old fashioned feel and structure into his portraits and even shoots vintage photographs for those who want to experience another place and time.
With the extensive collection of vintage photographs, and experiencing a treasured family photo being destroyed himself, Dowd now educates on how to effectively archive photographs for maximum life.
Dowd has performed photography work for Celebrities and major organizations such as: HOK Architects, Hell’s Kitchen’s Chef Robert Hesse, NWA Pro Wrestling Fusion and more. In 2008 the San Diego Voice and Viewpoint commissioned Jason to photograph the only Tampa campaign stop of Senator Barack Obama.
COLLECTIONS
Dowd’s first collection “Dreams, Nightmares, Fears and Fantasy” debuted in 2010, and was featured in THAT GALLERY in Hong Kong, China. The series is designed to bring to life the best dreams and fantasies, while exposing and emasculating the fear and horror of common fears and nightmares. The series is the largest collection by Jason Dowd with just over 400 individual pictures, some of which are in a series that tell a story.
Earth Angel, Jason’s second collection was designed to offset “Dreams, Nightmares, Fears and Fantasy” with a collection dedicated to good overcoming evil, and the principal that good will always prevail over evil.
Reality is his newest collection that takes a shot at the declining morals, values and ethics of America. It shows the tough life people live each and every day, and opens the eyes to the corruption within our country. Jason’s goal is to show these wretched scenarios in a staged fashion, hoping to touch someone enough to change their life or help change the status quo we currently live in.
