Janette Renee Smith (born February 23, 1966) is currently the Director of Media for Fred Hammond Family Entertainment Inc.(FHFE) - an independent entertainment company headed by Grammy Award winning gospel artist Fred Hammond. Prior to joining FHFE, Smith served as the Executive Director of Media for Creflo Dollar Ministries (2002 -2007) which has a broadcast reach of nearly 1 billion homes worldwide. Smith also hosts an "Ask DIY" segment and Telly Award-winning "Enable Your Home" for the DIY Network and on HGTV's specials for "Habitat for Humanity". She's also the former host of Good Day Atlanta, and Good Morning Texas. Personal life Janette Smith was raised in a military family; her father John E. Smith spent most of his life in the Air Force, retiring as a Colonel. Janette attended Montessori school and the first grade in Tehran, Iran. In 1983 her family moved to Huntsville, Alabama where Smith attended Alabama A&M University. During this time, Smith had already begun working in in television, starting at WAFF-48NBC as a secretary and camera operator in 1987. Career Eventually, Smith was promoted to the main anchorwoman position for WAFF’S 5pm and 10pm newscasts. Her move to main anchor made her the second African-American woman to ever anchor a prime time newscast in the Huntsville market. Smith moved to Cincinnati to continue her career at WCPO, and then Dallas, Texas, as co-host of the "Good Morning Texas" program on WFAA Channel 8. In 2000 Smith ended her news career at WAGA Fox 5 in 2002 as co-host of "Good Day Atlanta" and fill-in host for the noon newscast. Later that same year Smith was picked up by Scripps Networks to host the DIY Network and syndicated home improvement show "Ask DIY." Her work with HGTV soon followed. Janette Smith is often credited as Janette R. Smith and can be seen as an uncredited extra in the movie 'Space Camp' and as the character "Yolanda Jackson" in the indy film "Christmas...Who Needs It"- recently featured in the 2008 .
