Jan Mencwel

Jan Mencwel (born 1 November 1983) is a Polish activist, campaigner, columnist, leader of Miasto Jest Nasze.
Mencwel was born in Warsaw, and graduated from the University of Warsaw, Institute of Polish Culture (M.A., 2008). He is a qualified culture animator.
As an activist, since November 2016 he is the leader of Miasto Jest Nasze (City Is Ours) which is considered to be one of the major urban movements in Poland. He has been campaigning for solving reprivatisation problem, clean air and a more sustainable city environment.
As a columnist he has been publishing in e.g. Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita, Super Express, Fakt.
Professionally, he has worked with The Workshop for Social Innovation and Research “Shipyard”. Since September 2018 he is working for Warsaw office of ClientEarth.
Jan Mencwel is son of professor Andrzej Mencwel and Anna Gettlich. He is a member of Klub Inteligencji Katolickiej.
