Jamila Coleman (born 1982 in Oakland, California) is an American writer and counselor. She entered the foster care system when she was five years old in Oakland, California.
She is the author of Tomorrow Took Too Long: A story of a girl who survived ISBN 978-0-615-25033-5, which describes her life as a young girl whose once comfortable childhood was suddenly displaced into years of foster homes, abuse, depression and neglect.
At the age of 17, she founded Girlz Group Project Self-Sufficiency, an after-school program designed to help girls gain skills that will help them to succeed in education and life. For the past few years, she has worked in youth development for the [] Boys and Girls Club of King County in Seattle, Washington leading life skills group for at risk female teens. . Ms. Coleman also works as a behavioral rehabilitation counselor at therapeutic group homes for at-risk female teens in the foster care system.
