James Tan

James Tan is a Singaporean entrepreneur and investor. He is a co-founder of WoWo, one of China's largest deal sites, a co-founder and managing partner of Quest Ventures, the Chairman of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship in Singapore, and a former Chairman of BANSEA.
Early life and education
Tan was born in Singapore and originally studied Computer Science at the National University of Singapore, before dropping out to found his first startup during the dot-com bubble. The startup was subsequently acquired by Getty Images. He reenrolled at the University of South Australia, where he received his bachelor's degree, and earned his MBA from Tsinghua University.
Career
WoWo
In 2010, Tan and several of his classmates from Tsinghua University founded WoWo, one of China's largest daily deals sites, with Tan as Chief Operating Officer. WoWo had its initial public offering on the NASDAQ in 2015. At the time of the IPO, WoWo had more than 34 million subscribers across 150 Chinese cities.
Quest Ventures
In 2011, Tan and Wang Yunming, the former CEO of Wowo, partnered to found Quest Ventures. Since its founding, Quest Ventures has invested in more than 30 companies, including Carousell, SGAG, Oddle, and ShopBack. In 2017, Tan was dubbed an investor with the Midas touch by Vulcan Post.
