James Robert Hornsby
James Robert Hornsby (born 7 September 1852 - died 29 April 1917) was born at Guichen Bay, near Robe, South Australia, and came as a young boy to Victoria with his parents, who settled in Talbot. He lived there for some years and then left for St Arnaud at the time the railway was being built. Subsequently he came to Donald where he has resided ever since taking an active part in every public movement for the good of the town and district and gaining the esteem and respect of all who had any dealings with him. For years he was a member of the Donald Council, and filled the presidential chair with considerable ability. The Donald Waterworks Trust had the benefit of his valuable services from its inception up to a few months ago, when he resigned to make way for a younger man. He was chairman for over 20 years, and ratepayers are greatly indebted to him for his untiring efforts in ‘fathering’ the present splendid scheme. He was a justice of the peace, and acting coroner for years, and was associated with the Electric Light Co, a leading Mason, and a splendid worker in charitable and patriotic movements. He died 29 April 1917 in Donald, Victoria at the age of 64
