James L. Wainscott

James L. Wainscott (born 1956) also known as Jim, is a business leader in the steel industry.
Current executive roles
Wainscott was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of AK Steel Holding Corporation in 2003 and Chairman of the Board three years later. Prior to that, in 2001, he took on the role of responsibility for AK Tube LLC. In these key executive roles, Wainscott is in charge of the firm’s “quality, research and development, engineering, purchasing, transportation and information technology functions.”
Wainscott also plays a key role in the following organizations: he is a Trustee for the Anthony Munoz Foundation and Xavier University, a member of the Business Roundtable. He is a director and Trustee of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation,(where he was previously Chairman) a contributor to the John McCain 2008 political campaign,on the National Republican Congressional Committee and the Specialty Steel Industry of North America Board of Directors. He is also Vice Chairman of the Board at American Iron & Steel Institute, a Director for AK Steeel Holding Corp. and Parker-Hannifin Corporation.
His total compensation for 2013 was: $3,303,514.
Employment history
Prior to his current executive positions, Wainscott held a variety of other key roles at AK Steel Holding, since he joined the firm in 1995. These included: Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Senior VP. His work has involved leading the firm in the areas of: engineering, finance, Information Technology, purchasing, quality, research, transportation, etc.
Before AK Steel, Wainscott worked with the former National Steel Corporation in a variety of key roles, including Treasurer and Assistant Secretary. Other qualifications he has include: Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Management Accountant and Certified Public Accountant.
Education
Wainscott has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ball State University and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.

Jenkins, Chairman of the Board of Directors at AK Steel, on Wainscott’s appointment to top executive roles at the firm said: “Jim has extensive experience in the steel industry and has done a remarkable job since he assumed the role of CEO.” He added that the board’s decision was based on Wainscott’s “broad steel experience and the leadership he has demonstrated in his eight years with AK Steel.”
Philanthropy
In 2014, Wainscott was the Chairman for United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC)’s annual fundraising campaign. In this capacity he put together an impressive team of business leaders, nonprofit professionals and community volunteers hailing from throughout the Tri-State. Funds were used for the Bold Goals of Our Region in the three building blocks required to create an enhanced quality of life for all: Education, Income and Health. His theme for the campaign was: “ASPIRE to Greatness” which is an acronym for:

This position coincided with a new milestone, that being that 2014 is the first time in AK Steel’s 114-year history that it has led the Greater Cincinnati campaign.
