James Gornall

James Gornall is a racing driver (born 8th July 1984, Nottingham, England) often known by his nickname JIGGY
Career
2009 FIA GT3
James took part in the first two rounds of the FIA GT3 European Championship, once again partnering his 2008 Co-champion Jon Barnes.
The pair contested the event in an Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 maintained by Italians Brixia Racing. Importantly the car was using Pirelli tyres which proved to be some two seconds off the pace of the Michelins in both qualifying and the race.
James qualified in 13th position, top of all the Pirelli runners but was unfortunately collected by a spinning Ford GT, causing race ending damage in race one.
In race two, James and Jon started 29th on the grid, but were able to battle throough to an impressive 16th position, once again the top Pirelli runner.
2007-2008 British GT
2007
After some time away from racing due to lack of funding, James was able to return for a single race weekend in 2007, racing the Brookspeed International Motorsport Dodge Viper at the season Finale at Rockingham.
James was partnered with an Italian named Michaelangelo Segatori. Unfortunatley for James his co-drivers pace was not fast enough to challenge for the win, however he was able to record a 10th place on his debut.
2008 - British GT Champion
In 2008 James was partnered by Jon Barnes in the Team Tritime Brookspeed Viper, James and Jon were old karting rivals from their teenage years in Formula TKM and worked extremely well together as a pairing.
James and Jon were evenly matched and blisteringly fast. They were able to clinch the championship by the 13th July 2008 beating the likes of LeMans team Team Modena and FIA GT CRS Racing to the crown. Despite only having one car, Team Trimite Brookspeed only narrowly missed out on the team championship to CRS Racing who were competing with 3 cars.
James and Jon recorded 4 wins and 8 podiums on the way the championship success.
2008 Silverstone 24 hours
James also competed in the Silverstone 24hour race with Beechdean Motorsport in 2008. The team entered a pair of Aston Martin N24's into class two of the event.
His teammates in the number 24 Adston were team owner Andrew Howard, Jamie Smyth and Sportscar veteran Neil Cunningham.
James and his team battled through the night to take the class two victory by over 6 laps, and second overall, just 3 laps down on the winning GT2 Porsche.
2004 Formula Renault UK
For 2004 James moved into the Formula Renault UK class which supports the British Touring Car Championship.
James was part of a one car team, run by JA Motorsport whom James had won the BARC Renault Championship with. This however lead to a tough year, with no teammates or data from previous years to compare with.
James twice won the driver of the day award, and had a best finish of 10th from a grid of 34 cars.
Unfortunately James had to withdraw from the championship just after the halfway point due to sponsorship problems.
2003 BARC Formula Renault
James' first taste of single seaters was the BARC Formula Renault Championship in 2003. The cars were pre 2000 vehicles, and James drove a 98/99 Van Diemen for JA Motosport run by past champion James Beales and his father Tony.
After very little testing James was heading the field and took the title at his first attempt. During the season James recorded 5 victories, 9 podium finishes, 7 pole positions, 11 out of 12 fastest laps, and 6 new lap records.
James took part in a one-off race in the Formula Renault UK class at Rockingham with Scorpio Motorsport finishing in 14th position.
Also, James raced in the second round of the Renault UK Winter Series with Multiple Championship winning outfit, Fortec Motorsport.
For his 2003 achievements James was awarded the BARC 'Peter Collins Memorial Trophy’, awarded to the most promising new UK driver in all categories of Motorsport.
1994-2002 Karting
James began karting at an indoor kart track (Phoenix Karting, Peterborough)in 1994 aged 9. By aged 10 he was competing in MSA Cadet racing at club level, with a best finish of 3rd position at the PF International Kart Circuit.

In 1996 he moved into the Junior TKM class, with the best result of 3rd in the 1999 Junior TKM National Championship, along with taking the PF International club championship.
The year 2000 saw James moving into the Formula TKM class aged 15 where he achieved 14th in the National Championship, also winning the prestigious KartMasters event, along with the 'Champions of Buckmore' event at Buckmore Park, Kent.
In 2001 James was crowned Formula TKM National Champion, and again took a PF International Club Championship.
James moved into Formula ICA in 2002, finishing 6th in the National CHampionship, and also competed in the European Championship qualifiers in Bombarral, Portugal.
Throughout his time in karting, James was a Wright Karts works driver, and only briefly changed to a Tony Kart during his spell as a driver for Paul Fletcher's (PF International) kart team.
Other Motorsport Activities
James was appointed Ambassador for Lloyds TSB Private Banking in 2005 and attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He was privileged to drive up the hill in a TVR Sagaris, TVR Tuscan 2 (Prototype), Mosler MT900, and a Mosler MT900SC.
James was a member and ultimately team captain of the Oxford Brookes University Karting team that won the British University Karting Championship (BUKC) three years in succession, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
James was also a member of the Oxford Brookes Racing team that competed in the Formula Student UK and World Championships.
James is an 'A' grade ARDS licenced racing instructor.
Non Motorsport Activities
James was chosen as the 'Face of the Real Shaving Company' in 2005 for an intended national advertising campaign.
James graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2006 with an Honours degree in Business Management.
