James Bromley was the founder of Fire Radio, a UK-based dance music radio station in 1999 and a small student mobile phone sales enterprise. Following the sale of Fire Radio to Guardian Media Group in 2001 Bromley left the business. Career Between 2001 & 2008 Bromley joined AutoTrader.co.uk, the UK's dominant car classified service, initially as Business Development Director but also in a variety of roles across a number of businesses owned by Trader Media Group. The business changed hands between BC Partners, Guardian Media Group and finally Apax Partners during Bromley's tenure at the company. Bromley spent 4 years racing Caterham 7 cars between 2001 and 2005, winning the Roadsport B and Roadsport A British Championships before retiring after a series of serious accidents. In 2008 Bromley become Managing Director of Mail Online, the online presence of The Daily Mail, a London based newspaper, owned by Associated Newspapers, which is turn is part of DMGT. A move to enter the US market in 2010 as well as adoption of many e-reading devices and a focus upon getting content indexed by Google has enabled Bromley to push the "free content" agenda. MailOnline is now the UK's largest online newspaper with 44mil unique visitors each month. In 2009 Bromley was asked to join the board of the UK Association of Online Publishers and also joined BIMA, the British Interactive Media Association as a Director.
