jacknjellify is an American YouTube channel run by Cary and Michael Huang. They are best known for their web series, Battle for Dream Island. The channel itself was created on February 4, 2008, and currently has 1.12 million subscribers.
Channel history
The channel was originally created on February 4, 2008. They uploaded their first video two days later on February 6, a video titled "The BeiBei Squisher," where the Huang brothers created a 6-step device to knock a book on top of a plush toy from the 2008 Beijing Olympics called "BeiBei."
From February 2008 to July 2009, they uploaded a number of test animation videos as well as old school projects from 2007.
Battle for Dream Island
On January 1, 2010, they uploaded the first episode of their web series, Battle for Dream Island, or commonly referred to by fans as BFDI. (as of 2022, this is their most viewed video with 62 million views), which is a show where various inanimate objects with human-like personalities battle for the grand prize (Dream Island). The show was based on Total Drama Island, only the outcome of each elimination is decided by the viewers who cast a vote for the character who they think should be kicked off the show. The show ran for 25 episodes and ended on January 2, 2012.
Battle for Dream Island Again
In late 2011 and early 2012, the Huang brothers stated numerous times that they were not intending to release a second season of Battle for Dream Island, however, on June 30, 2012, they uploaded the first episode of season 2, called Battle for Dream Island Again, with returning characters as well as new ones. The season ran for 5 episodes (along with sub-episodes for BFDIA 5), before jacknjellify went on a nearly 3 year long hiatus.
2016 and season 3
In January 2016, Cary Huang uploaded a video in response to YouTube taking down BFDI 1b (the second sub-episode of episode 1). He also stated that BFDI wasn't dead. YouTube put the video back up a day later, and the problem was resolved.
Cary and Michael continued to upload update videos for most of 2016, and on September 1, 2016, they uploaded the first episode of season 3, called IDFB (which was simply just BFDI backwards). The series was cancelled after just one episode and they went on hiatus again.
Battle for BFDI
On November 3, 2017, after over a year since IDFB was released, jacknjellify uploaded the first episode of season 4, called Battle for BFDI. The new series featured over 30 new characters and new voice actors, as well as a new animation style. The series ended on April 9, 2021.
Scholastic Book
In 2019, jacknjellify came to an agreement with Scholastic Incorporated and had the Battle For Dream Island: Official Character Guide published.
The split and The Power of Two
On March 28, 2020, Cary Huang premiered a video of him explaining that they were going to split BFB into two separate series, in which some of the contestants stayed on BFB while others went to compete in a new show called The Power of Two, or TPOT.
The first episode of the new series was released on January 10, 2021. As of 2022, episode 2 has still not been released.
