Ivan Joe is a fantasy/adventure story written by Malcolm Mejin. Published in the English language, Ivan Joe is a three-page story column published in the children's monthly Chinese science magazine, Pelangi Scientist (2010). The Ivan Joe column is written to provide reading leisure and to promote the use of the English language among young readers. The story chronicles the adventures of Ivan Joe and his friends, Sandra Charms and Ethan Sakes, who are all gifted with magical powers. Ivan and his friends meet various mythical and magical creatures during the course of their escape from King Grimtor, who intends to steal their powers. The beginning of the story shows Ivan Joe trying to escape from Globberian Castle, where he has been locked up. He meets Sandra and Ethan, and together, the three work as a team to tackle obstacles and to elude the evil and powerful King Grimtor. Most chapters involve some action scenes where Ivan and his friends will have to use their powers to fight against evil or to save themselves. There are altogether ten chapters. The first chapter begins in Pelangi Scientist's January 2010 issue. The finale will appear in the October 2010 issue. Characters and abilities Ivan Joe: Bold and adventurous, Ivan Joe has the ability to blast green energy beams from his hands. When used in full force, his beams can cause serious destructions to objects/buildings. Ivan has reddish brown hair and blue eyes. He has a green band worn on his wrist. Sandra Charms: Sandra Charms has the power to transform herself into liquid form. When in her watery form, Sandra can glide, roll into waves and splash enemies away. Sandra has long blonde hair. Ethan Sakes: With the ability to control gravity, Ethan Sakes can cause objects to float and sink in the air. He can also lift himself and several other people up into the air with his power. However, excessive power use can drain his energy tremendously.
