The Island of Time is a fictional island in the video game Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, which takes place almost entirely on the island. Although the location of the island is never stated, in the opening scene of Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones the Prince mentions that it takes four weeks to travel from Babylon to the island (using only a sail boat), placing the island no further then outside the Indian Ocean.
The Island of Time is a dark and isolated bit of land shrouded in mist and encircled by turbulent seas. The island houses the Empress of Time's castle, a massive building. The castle is where the Empress remains because she has glimpsed her future and knows that one day the Prince of Persia would kill her.
The castle has two enormous towers, and connecting them a hall that acts as a central hub, which also leads to the Throne Room through the Hourglass Room. The island also contains a system of caves. The castle's corridors contain many traps and a complex network of time portals that allow one to travel between the era the Empress lives in and the present day, where the castle has fallen in disrepair. It is however still under the Empress's rule through her army of sand creatures' use of the time portals. The player must navigate through both time periods in order to reach parts of the island that can only be visited in one of the time periods. Hidden through the castle are nine stone machines that can charge the Prince's Medallion, which makes him live longer, and which also open a secret vault in the Hourglass Room.
The castle's two towers are the Mechanical Tower and the Garden Tower, both of which need to be activated to open the door to the Throne Room.
The Mechanical Tower is an enormous clockwork.
The Garden Tower is one of the most beautiful places on the island. The Prince's journey begins at the Water Maiden statue where he has to activate the water flow in order to lower a platform. Then through a series of jumps and slides he will reach the Upper Courtyard. This is a large balcony located above the Water Maiden. From here the Prince can go through a Time Portal and the exterior of the tower. After the Prince has climbed the overgrown structure he can activate the water flow that powers up the switch to unlock the second part of the Throne Room door.
The Prince travels to the Island of Time to attempt to stop the creation of the Sands of Time, while dodging the guardian of the Timeline, the Dahaka, who intends to remove the Prince from the timeline due to his corruption of the Timeline during the game before Warrior Within, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
During the game's unfolding the Prince kills the Empress and discovers this very act is what unleashes the Sands of Time. He then finds and uses the Mask of the Wraith to go back in time and lure the Empress into the present. Depending on whether or not the player found the Water Sword, the game can end one of two ways. In the alternative ending, he kills the Empress again, preventing the events of the original game from happening, saving him from the Dahaka. If the player found the Water Sword, he kills the Dahaka instead, and sails away to Babylon with the Empress. The latter is the canonical ending from which the final game, The Two Thrones, continues.
A number of mystical items bound to the Sands of Time were to be found on the Island of Time: * The Dagger of Time, used by the Prince in The Sands of Time and The Two Thrones to manipulate time. * A Medallion, worn by Princess Farah, but only actually used by the Prince to manipulate time in Warrior Within. * A Staff, used by the evil Vizier in The Sands of Time. * The Mask of the Wraith, a mask that overcomes a limitation of the other items; it allows the wearer to exist in one time period more than once. It also supplies the wearer with a slowly generating, but unlimited amount of Sands at the cost of his health. * The Water Sword, a weapon that has the power to destroy the Dahaka, hidden in the floor of the Hourglass Room until after all nine Life Upgrade machines on the island have been activated.
