Islamonausea is a neologism which has been in use since 2005. It parodies the neologism Islamophobia, and refers to the feeling of nausea disgust, displeasure, discomfort or aversion that may be felt by an individual when encountering Islam, Islamic culture, or its representatives. Coinage The first reference to the term appeared in a comment to an article on the positive reaction by some Muslims to the 7 July 2005 London bombings at Jihadwatch, the blog affiliated with the David Horowitz Freedom Center, run by American author Robert Spencer.which stated "I don't have islamophobia, I have islamoNausea, I'm sick of them all." The next reference was in a 2009 video entitled "Apologists for evil" posted to YouTube by the comedian and internet personality Pat Condell. In late 2011 it was published in a letter to the Danish newspaper Nordjyske Stiftstidende in an article entitled "Vi had kvalme" ("We have nausea") , and then publicised more widely in 2012 at Jihad Watch Examples of use In the 2012 Jihad Watch article, eight of examples are given for the use of the term: *"I'm not afraid of Islam, I have Islamonausea." *"I do not want minarets in my town. They give me Islamonausea." *"They got Islamonausea from all the Muslim immigrants and decided to move to another neighbourhood." *"Reading the Koran gives me Islamonausea." *"He got Islamonausea and decided to quit his job at the prison." *"I get Islamonausea hearing about all those honor killings." *"I get Islamonausea at the thought of eating Halal." *"I get Islamonausea seeing all those Muslims hopping up and down and shooting in the air, trying to scare us into respecting their childish behaviour." Justification The author of the article at Jihad Watch justifies the use of the neologism, arguing that the word “Islamophobia” is a divisive term chosen by Muslims which leads to fear and a breakdown of communication. Substituting the term with "Islamonausea", it is argued, may enable Muslims to recognise that certain aspects of their behaviour and culture such as violence towards and and social control of women and the calls for hatred and killing of non-Muslims in the Koran, are viewed as sickening by many in Western culture.
