Isaac Henry, Jr. (1928 - November 16, 2010) was an American martial artist. Along with George Chalian he founded the Beikoku Karate-Do Goyukai (BKG) at Governor's Island, New York in 1959, under the name Fort Jay Karate Club and later Govis karate Club. As founder, Isaac Henry Jr. is also entitled "" and is a 10th degree. BKG became a branch of Zen Nippon Karate-Do Goyukai when Michio Nozumi, its headmaster, and instructor of Henry, appointed him as branch chief. The Hudson Reporter said "Grandmaster Henry is one of the most respected martial arts grandmasters in the United States." The BKG Style The BKG style is derived from , the Way of Peace and Harmony, developed by . Otsuka combined Shotokan Karate which he learned from Gichin Funakoshi with Japanese jujitsu. Otsuka also emphasized kumite or hand to hand combat. The Wado system was passed down through Otsuka to his pupil Michio Nozumi. Michio Nozumi was the founder of the Zen Nippon Karate-Do Goyukai. Nozumi passed the style down to his pupil Isaac Henry Jr. The system taught by Henry includes further modifications based on his experiences and exposure to other systems and methods over his many years of practice and instruction. GIsaac Henry Jr. was recognized as head of systems in 1993 by the World Head of Family Sokeship Council. Isaac Henry Jr.’s wife Katsuko Suzuki Henry, is now recognized as Grand Master and Shihan of BKG and their sons James and Fred are the rank of Kudan, or 9th.
