Internet of nature

The term Internet of Nature refers to the application of Wireless Sensor Network technology to Nature monitoring.
The aim is to bring the natural element over the internet.
The vision of Internet of things is a new message which will change the future of our living. Within this vision emerges the "Internet of Nature", to help monitor the state of the environment. Pollution, Natural Hazards, Wildlife can be monitored much easier using an efficient WSN technology.
The result can be a powerful instrument in our hand to get in contact with the nature.
Nature monitoring is far to be new. Satellite observation, Monitoring stations on earth and much more have been there for a long time. But the WSN technology enable a new layer of earth monitoring: "in situ" monitoring using low cost, flexible, reliable systems.
Also it opens a new age: a democratic approach to monitoring.
Until now the environment monitoring is confined to public institution because it requires heavy investments or permits. WSN enable almost everybody to bring the nature online and monitor the pollution or risk level of the natural elements.
This opportunity may change the way we interact with the environment as the internet has changed the way we live, allowing easy and instant access to data contracting phisical distance.
The same may happen to the nature where everybody will be able to buy, install and connect environment sensors to internet, allowing anybody else to receive data and eliminate phisical distance over the nature.
The term has been used for the first time in 2006 in Italy by Marco Brini which has developed within the Politecnico of Turin Incubator a new WSN technology especially designed to monitor the environment.
