International Cinephile Society
|
The International Cinephile Society (ICS) is an online film group formed in 2003 that focuses on international and independent cinema. The International Cinephile Society votes annually on the best films of the year in several categories including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Not In The English Language. Past ICS Best Picture winners include The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Before Sunset, Brokeback Mountain, Children of Men, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and Happy-Go-Lucky. The ICS has consistently announced winners each year, however, they have varied in their presentation. For its first five years, the ICS announced winners with runners-up only. For the year 2007, the society posted long-lists in categories with up to ten or more potential nominees prior to announcing its ultimate winners. Most recently for 2008, the society announced a more traditional set of five nominees for each of its several categories except for Best Picture and Best Film Not In The English Language (with ten nominees each).
