International Association of Project Managers

The International Association of Project Managers (short: IAPM) is an internationally operating organisation with a certification body for project managers.
History
The IAPM was founded in 1997 by a network of international project managers. Since the founding year, numerous International Project Manager Meetings (IPMM) have been held, in countries such as the USA, Italy, India and Malaysia. In 2010, the IAPM was formally established along with its certification body. The Principality of Liechtenstein was chosen as the location for its headquarters.
Purpose
The tasks of the IAPM include mainly the support of project managers, the promotion of project management and the encouragement of international cooperation in project management. This is done in particular through the promotion of specialist literature, the organisation of training courses and events as well as through its certifications.
Certificates
The IAPM offers three different levels of certification in traditional project management and three different levels in agile project management. For project managers in an international environment, the IAPM offers one certification. Additionally, there are certification levels in all areas to become a training partner of the IAPM.
The certifications in the traditional field are:
* Certified Junior Project Manager (IAPM)
* Certified Project Manager (IAPM)
* Certified Senior Project Manager (IAPM)
The certifications in the agile field are:
* Certified Junior Agile Project Manager (IAPM)
* Certified Agile Project Manager (IAPM)
* Certified Senior Agile Project Manager (IAPM)
The certification in the international field is:
* Certified International Project Manager (IAPM)
The certification in project management training is:
* Certified Project Management Trainer (IAPM)
Certification basis
The certification bases of the IAPM are the Project Managers' Guide (IAPM), the Agile Project Managers' Guide (IAPM) and the International PM Guide 2.0. These guides are available free of charge online in German and English. In addition, the IAPM offers a web-learning platform for traditional project management, which is accessible at no cost and without registration.
Numbers
As of November 2021, the IAPM has 5,572 certificate holders from 154 nations. The pass rate is 84%. The IAPM network unites 40,700 project managers worldwide.
Recognition
In 2018, the IAPM's methods were recognized by the Procurement Office of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior. In the same year, IAPM certified members of the United Nations. In addition, IAPM is listed by well-known platforms and universities.
Publications
The IAPM has published several certification bases, web-learning platforms, white papers and cheat sheets. Their white paper on Hybrid Project Management was published in 2017. The IAPM and its methods, which are set out in the Hybrid PM Guide 2.0, are thus among the first project management organisations addressing this complex of topics. Each of these publications is freely available and can be viewed and used online by anyone.
Special features of IAPM
The IAPM examination procedure is entirely conducted online. Candidates register for the exam independently and decide for themselves when they want to take it. Once passed, this certification is valid for life.
In order to make certification affordable for everyone, the fees of the IAPM depend on citizenship. For example, a citizen of Egypt pays less in absolute terms than a citizen of Canada, according to the gross domestic product.
Every person has the opportunity to prepare for the IAPM examinations in the traditional field by self-study free of charge. Since the IAPM offers a web-learning platform for all traditional certification levels. Furthermore, it does not prescribe how one has to prepare for the exam, i.e. no special courses have to be attended.
