The term is referenced in William Gibson's 1993 essay Disneyland with the Death Penalty. History Singapore's mass communications networks, including television and phone networks, have long been operated by the government. When Singapore first came online, Singaporeans could use Teleview to communicate with each other, but no one outside of their sovereign city-state.
