Waldo Cabrera is a businessman, a community activist and an internet news personality. He was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and migrated to New York City at age 8. Background Waldo is one of four children. His parents were janitors with strict rules and work ethic. Waldo’s after-school activities consisted of sweeping, mopping, packing mountains of garbage, and helping his dad unclog toilets. His hard work and dedication quickly paid off at New York City’s High School of Art & Design. He became a student body leader, culminating as the school president. At Syracuse University, he continued his involvement and commitment to helping fellow students adjust to college life as a Resident Advisor. After receiving an advertising degree from Syracuse University, Waldo began his career in creative communication. During his 12 years at 4Kids Entertainment, he was part of a growth period that saw the company go from about 25 employees to over 300. First serving as creative director then as a Vice President of 4Kids Home Video, he helped establish worldwide brands such as Nintendo, Ninja Turtles, and Pokémon. He often speaks to kids in Washington Heights, the South Bronx and Harlem and volunteers his time at Puerto Rican and Dominican non-profit youth groups. In an effort to combat poverty in his hometown, he established a computer institute in Altamira, Dominican Republic. Through the Brentwood Rotary Club, The Brentwood Summit Council and Islip.TV, Waldo works on literacy and community pride programs. In 1999 he married Sandy; they have a son, Max. Career After seeing news on Long Island turn more and more negative, Waldo used his experience in television and as a community activist to launch a web based TV station, MyLITV.com (Islip.TV). MyLITV.com focuses on the positive people and events across Long_island. In June 2009, Mr. Cabrera began producing the "My Long Island TV" news magazine for Verizon FiOS1. "My Long Island TV" currently airs every day at 10:30am and 11:30am on Long Island. Within its first year in existence, MyLITV.com won the BOLI (Best On Long Island) for Best Internet News and Best Internet Politics. At the Fair Media Council's (FOLIO Awards), MyLITV.com (Islip.TV) was the only web site to receive this journalism award. Other honors include a Gold Award for Best Internet Segment, Outstanding Media Award from the Town of Islip and Outstanding Media Activist from the New York State Senate. He is also the creator and owner of the websites ISLIP.TV and MyLITV.com. In 2008, Cabrera announced his candidacy for Assemblyman in New York State's 6th Assembly District. Conservative Party support The Suffolk County Conservative Party has endorsed Cabrera.
