According to the official website of the IBCM, the mission of the IBCM is stated to promote the art, science and good practice of business continuity and its management within Africa and the Middle East for the benefit of its members, their organizations, stakeholders and the society at large. Their certification model follows a similar approach being used globally and the levels of membership compare fairly with other institutions. They offer individual as well as corporate memberships.
Membership
Individual membership is offered based on proven experience and competence and range from Associate (designated by AIBCM), which is the uncertified or entry level membership, to the professional certifications of Specialist (SIBCM), Member (MIBCM) and Fellow (FIBCM), which is the most senior grade offered.
Applications for membership are formally assessed by the institute’s Membership Committee against strict criteria and member grades recommended in accordance
with a specific experience subject to a submission of the relevant required evidence. Prior learning and membership of other recognized organizations are also considered during the assessment process.
Governing Structure
The Institute is governed by the Advisory Board elected by its members and supported by a few co-opted experienced business continuity professionals. The
Advisory Board oversees the work of a number of Committees. The Committees’ chairpersons and the members are also elected by the Institute's members. The day-to-day operations of the Institute is managed by an appointed CEO.
