Instigatorzine

Instigatorzine is an American digital and hard print magazine of literature and art published independently. Starting as a monthly in February 2010, the magazine is now published bi-monthly since November 2010.
<big>History</big>
Based in New Jersey, Instigatorzine was created by Keith Chiappone and Narciso Espiritu Jr. in February of 2010 to create a venue in New Jersey to publish literature and art by local authors and artists. The first issue was crafted by Chiappone using Microsoft Word after discovering the lack of New Jersey publishers in his copy of Writer's Market. Chiappone created a Facebook group and Craigslist ads and chose the material himself. The first issue, a 20-page black and white zine, debuted on February 18, 2010. Since March, 2010, the magazine has been in color and ranges from 32 to 48 pages. Since starting the magazine in 2010, Instigatorzine has published over 100 new artists and authors from around the world.
Instigatorzine is currently distributed through online sales (mostly from instigatorzine.com) and a few local businesses like Moon Shadow Collectibles in Jersey City and Vector Comics in Bayonne.
Covers
Each cover is drawn by a local artist and depicts either explicitly or implicitly the image of an alligator, with the exception of Issue 2. The cover also features humorous definitions of the word, instigator.
Instigator of the Month
Each issue includes an article describing a figure from history that the staff has deemed an instigator. The article describes what makes this figure an instigator. Instigators include Nikola Tesla, Sojourner Truth, Horace Walpole, Josephine Baker, Harvey Pekar, Geoffrey Canada, and Julian Assange.
