Insertion machine

An insertion machine is a machine which can insert components into printed circuit boards automatically. Workers can insert components into a PCB by hand before, but this is much slower than a machine.
History
An early model, controlled by punched cards was described in 1959, used in the manufacture of Sage Computers at IBM's Kingston plant.
Sequencing
Finding the most efficient order in which to insert components has proved a challenging problem for the industry, prompting research. Chan and Mercier have attempted to increase the efficiency of insertion machines using solutions for the traveling salesman problem
