In the Basement Productions
|
In the Basement Productions is a small theater company based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The company was originally dedicated to performing classical works, but it has shifted focus in recent years to include modern plays. In the Basement is also known for its annual fund-raising event, Love Bites, a cabaret featuring scenes from plays that take humorous or dark views of love. The event, which usually features an accompanying band, is performed, fittingly, on Valentine's Day. In the Basement's name was derived from the company's first rehearsal space: in the basement of the Tilsner Artists' Cooperative, where several company members lived. The company's shows frequently appeared at the now-defunct Fourth Street Theater in St. Paul. With the closure of the Fourth Street, In the Basement moved its performances to the Lowry Lab Theater, also in Saint Paul, which opened in 2006.
