Architecture
The Immaculate Heart Church was built in the Gothic Revival style, which was a common architectural style for 1800s Oregon. The church models this through a steep gable roof, intricate bargeboard, and arched, stained glass windows<ref name="OHP" />. It also has multiple dormers, another feature commonly found in the Gothic Revival. It also models stick style with its emphasized beams, and as such, connects it to Carpenter Gothic architecture, a North American offshoot of the Gothic Revival style. Moreover, the church has a large, intricate steeple at its front, which is a common architectural feature for Catholic churches.
During the 1800s, Gothic Revival builds were often determined by intricate design, building costs, and the building's function. This led to a focus on the aesthetics of the build over authentic Gothic materials and blueprints<ref name"OHP" />. The Immaculate Heart Church was built in this manner, using wood and plaster to create the look of a Gothic church, which were usually built of brick and stone. <mapframe latitude"45.54407" longitude"-122.66611" zoom"13" width"322" height"238" align="right" />
